All of this culminated in the special release around the 35th Anniversary of the film (2004 actually). According to when I spoke with Brian several years ago, he had only ever built about 3 or so of these packs. It was expensive but was the only accurate and Fox licensed pack out there. This particular one is used, as its that old. It has some wear to the silver paint of the shell.
Some of that is intentional as in the film scuffs, scratch on the flag etc. Are intentional but the back of the shell silver paint reacted a bit to the straps when in storage and left strap texture impressions.
This can probably be hand burnished out, or can always be carefully resprayed. No big deal to me.The contents add quite a bit of weight. The pack weighs about 20 pounds! I believe the inside molded trays can be carefully removed leaving just the shell if you wanted to actually wear the pack.
Its big, its heavy and it is expensive, but its a fantastic hand built and finished authentic licensed replica and extremely rare. Offering well discounted off the original price.
Only a few were made. Interesting to Note: the pistol in the original film survival backpack was a Colt 1903 model, produced between 1903 and 1945. The Astronaut crew departed earth in 1972. It has been reproduced here from an authentic one, but solid resin and cast into the tray, so it is not. Removable and could never possibly be fired.
The other components are also cast into the liner trays. The item "PLANET Of The APES 1968 Commander Taylor PROP Survival Backpack 11 APEMANIA" is in sale since Monday, October 23, 2017. This item is in the category "Entertainment Memorabilia\Movie Memorabilia\Props\Reproductions".
